Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs): Salicylic acid, 3-hydroxypropionic acid, trethocanic acid and tropic acid.
Complications in pregnancy have arised in women who have taken aspirin and salicylic acid is a part of the aspirin family. It is felt this ingredient should be best avoided to be safe. It is currently just not known if topical application will cause problems.
Chemical sunscreens: Avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, octocrylene, oxybenzone, oxtinoxate, menthyl anthranilate and oxtocrylene.
Try Cyberderm Zinc Oxide Organic Mineral SPF instead. It has an amazing rating on ewg.org.
They have perfected the formula now that even with the zinc oxide it won’t leave a white or chalky residue even on the darkest skin colours. It also feels lightweight and non-greasy.
Or Try
Jane Iredale has her Mineral Zinc Oxide SPF in a powder form too!
And for the Body, we recommend Lionheads Mineral Zinc Oxide non-greasy Sunblock as well.
We carry them all in our studio & at our Green Beauty Online Store. $27-$60

Retinol A/Retinoids
There’s a proven link between the use of retinoids and an increased risk of birth defects for developing babies. Most doctors warn patients not to get pregnant if they’re using these medications. But if you do get pregnant, stop using retinoids immediately.
Hydroquinone
Also listed as: idrochinone and quinol/1-4 dihydroxy benzene/1-4 hydroxy benzene.
is a skin-lightening agent used to treat conditions such as chloasma, melasma, hyper pigmentation.
Whether you were taking hydroquinone pre-pregnancy or are considering using it to treat the dark patches of skin that sometimes develop during pregnancy (also called the pregnancy mask), this is one product to avoid until after your baby is born. Studies have shown that as much as 45 percent of this medication is absorbed into the skin after topical application, and while no studies have yet been conducted on the effect of hydroquinone on a fetus, there is just too much of the chemical in your bloodstream after use to justify the risk.
Parabens
There is beginning to show a link from parabens to an adverse effect on the reproductive system of baby boys. Once again more research is needed but as a mom-to-be , better to be on the overly cautious side.
Phthalates
AKA DBP (dibutyl phathalate) are common in products ie. nail polish but often in many products it would not be listed. Phathalates may be in skin care products with “fragrance” listed on the label. It can be found in any number of skin care or cosmetic products including nail polish, deodorant, hair spray or perfumes. It is an important ingredient to avoid during pregnancy.
According to the book “Not Just a Pretty Face – The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry”, a 2005 study by Shanna Swan, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Rochester, has shown a “significant relationship” to the presence of higher quantities of phathalates present in a pregnant woman’s body and changes in the genitals of boy babies.
Recent studies have raised concerns about the common use of phthalates in products and the potential health risks associated with their use. They have been linked to everything from high blood pressure to ADHD to diabetes. In addition, a new round of studies have found connections between prenatal phthalate exposure and abnormal fetal development. Look for personal care products that are labeled phthalate-free.
Toulenes
Toulenes are found in majority of nail polishes and nail products. The inhalation of the fumes is believed that it can cause developmental damage to the fetus.
Look for Nail products that are listed as 3-free or better yet, 5-free.
Formaldehyde
Listed on product labels as formaldehyde, quaternium-15, dimethyl-dimethyl (DMDM), hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea, diazolidinyl urea, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, and 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol (bromopol)
Parenting groups recently won grassroots campaigns to get formaldehyde out of many products specially formulated for babies. But the ingredient — a known carcinogen — is still commonly found in personal care products made for adults such as hair straightening treatments, nail polish and eyelash glue. Seek out products that are formaldehyde-free.
Look for Nail products that are listed as 3-free or better yet, 5-free.
Thioglycolic acid found in Cream Hair Removers
May be listed on label as acetyl mercaptan, mercaptoacetate, mercaptoacetic acid and thiovanic acid
Thioglycolic acid is the active ingredient found in most hair removal creams, or depilatories. While there are no studies about the effect that this chemical has on a growing baby, it’s important to note that the European Union limits the amount of thioglycolic acid that can be used in products to 5 percent whereas products sold in the U.S. are allowed to contain as much as 15.2 percent. That’s a huge discrepancy, and when combined with the lack of solid data on the health risks associated with their use, it’s best to err on the side of caution and leave these products on the shelf.
The strong hair melting Chemicals in these products can be absorbed into the skin. Additionally, many of the more popular brands list “fragrance” which may contain phathalates.
Try the Nufree Botanical Hair Removal service we offer instead. It is super safe for even the most sensitive skins during pregnancy or after surgery. It hurts 50% less than regular wax and has 35% longer lasting results than regular wax.
Aluminum chloride hexahydrate:
Found in antiperspirant; check for aluminum chloride hexahydrate and aluminium chlorohydrate.
affects the cells that produce sweat and is in FDA pregnancy category C, which means “to avoid,” says Dr. Alexiades-Armenakas.
Try Lionheads Organic natural Deodorant instead. It is made with Coconut oil & Arrowroot powder.
Works Great!
Find it at our Green beauty Online Store:
https://squareup.com/store/shellys-beauty-studio
Dihydroxyacetone AKA DHA
Ingredient found in many spray self-tanners.
DHA is a chemical that reacts with the dead layer of skin on your body, adding color in a way that many see as safer than suntanning. However, while DHA is not absorbed into the body, it can be inhaled during application. That could be unhealthy for both you and your baby.
For now, lets pass on the spray tan while you have a baby on board.
Benzoyl Peroxide
According to Safe Fetus (a database that provides information on the safety of medications taken during pregnancy and while breast feeding) benzoyl peroxide found in many products used to treat acne is rated a Category C meaning that:
“Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the fetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women, or studies in women and animals are not available. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.”
Hydrocortisone
This topical cream used for treating acne is believed to put the fetus at risk for birth defects and possible toxicity to the fetus but more studies are needed. Safe Fetus.com rates this as a Category C to be used with care. See benzoyl peroxide for complete definition.
Lead
Who would have thought that lead could be in any products we use but a study completed by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (do a search for lead in lipstick on the Safe Cosmetics site for more on this study) found lead in many brands of popular lipsticks.
The amounts found are enough to be concerned about if you are pregnant. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics says that “pregnant women and young children are particularly vulnerable to lead exposure because lead easily crosses the placenta and may enter the the fetal brain where it interferes with fetal development.”
To avoid during pregnancy any concerns about lead in lipsticks by choosing from the many natural lipsticks available that will keep you looking pretty and feeling safe.
We do carry the Jane Iredale and FitGlow Beauty Organic Mineral Makeup Brands (which are of course lead and chemical free) and they have so many colours for you to choose from!
They look, feel and taste great! Lots of nourishing ingredients and vitamins for your skin too!
They are also vegan and gluten free as well.
1,4 Dioxane
This is not an ingredient you will find listed on any skin care products because it is a by product of other synthetic petroleum based ingredients. It has been found to cause cancer and little is known about it’s effects on a developing fetus.
It is present in many cleansing type products, hair products, moisturizers among other personal care products.
We do carry the Organic Brands of Fitglow Beauty, Ilike Organics, RVB Holistic Beauty & Odacite Fresh Organic Skincare. Please contact us for your personalized skincare consultation. We will find you the best high performance skincare products suitable for your skin.
You will be guaranteed peace of mind with these wonderful chemical free skincare products. =D
Botulinim toxin aka Botox
There are no studies testing the effect of Botox on a developing baby. But that does not mean they are safe! Chemical are used in Botox procedures, botulinim toxin, works by paralyzing the muscles around wrinkles so that they become less visible.
End of the day, it is still a toxin, and it is something your liver needs to process.
Essential Oils
Essential oils are just so super concentrated. So if misused, it can cause negative results even in a non-pregnant person.
The few that are safe to use when pregnant/breastfeeding are:
Geranium, Ylang Ylang, Lavender, Grapefruit, Roman Chamomile
Please do read instructions carefully and/or consult with your Certified Aromatherapist for proper usage directions when pregnant/breastfeeding.
If you need help finding alternatives to personal care products you currently use that are chemical based, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We will help you figure out which Holistic Organic alternatives will work best for your personal care needs. That is the reason why I travel far and wide and do tons of research almost everyday to bring the best & safest products & services to my Beauty Studio. This is why we carry the large array of high performance Green Beauty skincare and cosmetics that we do to better serve you & personally for a healthy green lifestyle.
We want you to be safe and have peace of mind at all times. That is my philosophy even when I am not pregnant. I like to sleep well at night and know I am only using the best & cleanest products & doing the same for my Clients. I do not want to be loaded with chemicals and contributing to the big companies who make chemical laden products just b/c their bottom line is just for large profits that in the end harm me. Why would I want to pay someone my hard earned money to have them poison me??? That just doesn’t make sense.
Hope you found this blog entry helpful.

Want those gorgeous luscious Lash Extensions that’s all the craze these days?
YES! BEWARE where you go have them done.
I have been asked by many of my Clients and Friends to write this Blog Entry over the years…. finally here it is =D
Sorry it’s late. It’s also partially b/c I thought maybe now that years have passed since Lash Services have been around that there won’t be so many scary places left this doing anymore…..I guess I was wrong….
So many of my Friends & Clients have had TERRIBLE experiences over the years by so-called Lash Extension Stylists. I guess they would be the equivalent of what can be called a “Lash Extensions Butcher”. Just like if someone has had bad plastic surgery done all wrong or if a construction project was done all wrong, those who did it are AKA “Butchers”…..
What can go so terribly wrong? Here are a few of the very common things that can go very wrong:
– burning sensations for a short or long period of time
– blood shot eyes
– very irritated eyes for indefinite amount of time
– can’t open eyes for a short or long time
– swelling of eye area
– discolouration of eye area
– crusting
– loss of your own lashes
– Skin rashes
– Blistering
– Swelling
– damaged corneas
– damaged skin
– over sensitive eyes on a daily basis
– damaged contact lenses
– …..and even blindness
SO if you have ever experienced any of the above during or after your Lash Extensions session, it is absolutely NOT a normal common issue or reaction that should be happening. If any of those above issues has happened to you, PLEASE DON’T go back to that place. It is definitely not worth losing your eyesight over Lash Extensions no matter how well priced they may be.
Here is what an Excellent and Proper Lash Extensions experience should be like:
1. You arrive with no eye makeup on
2. Have the consultation with your Lash Stylist on what style you desire
3. You lay down on a comfy warm bed with knees properly propped up so it doesn’t hurt your back. You can take a nice nap if you wish.
4. Lash Stylist applies Anti-Aging Collagen Pads to protect your lower lash line while giving you a nice Eye Treatment as you are getting your lashes done. These wonderfully comfy Eye Pads will help increase hydration levels, minimize wrinkles/lines, increase collagen/elastin and reduce puffiness from tired eyes or lack of sleep. So it’s like a mini Eye Facial as you’re lying there getting your lashes done.
5. Lash Stylist does your lash extensions and you don’t feel a thing. No pressure anywhere. It’s like she/he’s not doing anything.
6. TA-DA. Done! They remove your Treatment EyePads, check if any any lashes need separating, brush out your lashes.
7. You can leave and go show off those Awesome Lashes! You don’t feel a thing! No sitting there with a fan for 45 mins. You can instantly go once you’re done.
That’s it. It should be a happy, comfortable, easy Experience like nothing happened except you magically got a Gorgeous set of new Lashes!
The quality of materials used in a set of Lash Extensions is of UTMOST importance.
YES! In this situation Price DOES matter. As a general rule, it is highly likely anywhere that charges less than $100 uses suspicious materials that are not Health Canada Approved and can potentially be dangerous.
It is impossible for a salon to pay out even a minimum wage to the Lash Stylist, pay for good Materials, pay for rent, pay for marketing and make a profit if a set of Lashes are less than $100.
However, if you do see Students that are charging less than $100, that may be OK, b/c they are practicing and aren’t as fast or as good yet or they are offering a promotion like that to build their Clientele.
All the components of materials involved are very important, but if you need me to pick out whats the MOST important, it is definitely the Glue being used.
ONLY medical-grade Cyanoacrylate should ever be used for Lash Extensions. Any other glues out there are absolutely not suitable for these individual lash by lash extensions.
Cyanoacrylate is the the medical adhesive Doctors use instead of stitches to hold a wound together if needed.
The price of the glue increase as the percentage of Cyanoacrylate increases.
ex. The Best Glue Available is $250 for 5ml. (I use that one for my Clients b/c I love my Clients and I only want the best for them. It also gives better performance and durability and lifespan)
A high Grade Glue $175 for 10ml.
A medium-high Grade Glue $125 for 10ml
A medium grade starter Glue $90 for 10ml
….and the bad glues?? I have no idea where they can be found because after being certified by several Lash Courses/Schools and knowing all the distributors from being in the industry for 16 years, I have never even seen them being offered to be sold.
I have no idea where people buy them from from the horror stories I have heard. So my guess? Maybe they’re from the hardware store and they’re $2. That would be my guess. I have heard they may be purchased from Ebay too….
EEEK! Scary stuff!
Want to see some scary pictures of what it looks like when Lashes are done wrong? Well I won’t post them here, since I don’t want to see them bc they’re too scary for me… but google “lash extensions gone wrong” and you’ll see them.
Hope you enjoyed this Blog Entry and found it useful =)

Over the past 7 years, I think I’ve tried 10+ different kinds of cleanses.
A cleanse will benefit one in numerous ways. It will detox your whole body and reset your metabolism so that your body can function optimally again.
As a side result, your skin will become more glowing, radiant and clear as well.
A light cleanse is recommended to be done quarterly and a more intense cleanse to be done yearly.
Some allow you eat, and some do not.
As I’m older now, I don’t know why….maybe I just love food too much, but I find it it super difficult to do a cleanse that does not permit eating. As well, I can no longer do those cleanses that make you swallow a ton of big supplements everyday.
However, those do work well too of course.
So recently I have been doing the Raw Food Cleanses. They are amazing! Not boring or gross tasting at all! (although, some places are better than others for sure)
I already fell in love organic raw vegan food the 1st time I tried it. You will be amazed at what they can make! Those Chefs are TRULY AMAZING and BRILLIANT!
Chef Doug McNish even hosts cooking classes!
If you live around the #GTA, here are some of the Best (and my favourite) places to go to:
www.dougmcnish.com
www.rawlicious.ca (they offer a 1 week Cleanse Program where you pick up your daily food in the morning or pm. Excellent!)
hibiscuscafe.ca
www.raw-aura.com
www.greenhousejuice.com
www.villagejuicery.com
Below I have posted some pictures of wonderfully detoxifying & delicious raw foods.
I hope you will enjoy all the raw foods as much as I do.
Have fun exploring. Whichever cleanse you decide on, you should feel AMAZING afterwards.

Gone away to the tropics this frigid winter? and now back with a sunburn? (by accident of course since I’m sure you wore appropriate SPF)
*DRINK LOTS OF WATER*
1. Soak it up using Compresses. For immediate relief, soak the sunburned areas in cold water (but not ice water) with cold compresses for 15 minutes until the compress warms. The cold reduces swelling and takes away some heat from your skin.
2. Take a Bath with oatmeal and/or milk and/or Black Teabags. If you’re burned all over, take a soak in a cool bath to which you’ve added oatmeal or Teabags or milk. You can grind up a cup of oatmeal in a food processor and add it to your bath.
I would take a different bath using these ingredients each day.
3. Make a green tea compress. Brew up a pot of green tea and let it cool. Soak a clean cloth in the tea, and use it as a compress for sunburned areas. The tea contains ingredients that help protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation damage and reduce inflammation.
Apply these other foods every 2-4 hours as needed.
You can find all these sunburn soothers right in your kitchen.
4. Cool off with Peppermint. Use the cooling, aromatic qualities of peppermint to reduce the sting of a sunburn. Make peppermint tea or mix two drops of peppermint oil with a cup of lukewarm water. Chill the liquid in the fridge and gently bathe the sunburned areas.
5. Don’t use soap.
Soap will dry and irritate sunburned skin.
Do not soak in soapy water and bubble baths. If you must use soap, says Dr. Gossel, use only a mild brand and rinse it off very well. What you can do is take a cool bath, as an alternative to compresses. Add more water as needed to keep the temperature cool. Afterward, gently pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Do not rub your skin, or you’ll irritate it further. You can also add one of the following to reduce pain, itching, and inflammation.
6. Vinegar. Vinegar contains acetic acid—one of the components of medications such as Aspirin. It can help ease sunburn pain, itching, and inflammation. Soak a few sheets of paper towels in white vinegar, and apply them to the sunburned areas. Leave them on until the towels are dry. Repeat as needed.
7. Baking Soda & Vinegar Paste. Mix baking soda and vinegar to make a thick paste, and apply it over the sunburned areas. Apply this paste before bedtime, and leave it on overnight.
8. Moisturize Moisturize Moisturize!
Remember to moisturize with a good moisturizer after you do all these remedies. You can always leave your moisturizer in the fridge as well for added cooling effect.
9. Cornstarch your bed. Sprinkle your sheets with cornstarch or Talcum powder to minimize painful chafing. (Use this technique only for bad sunburns, since you’ll have to wash the sheets afterward.)
10. Aloe. Apply a light coating of pure aloe vera to the sunburned skin, using either a fresh piece from the plant or in the gel form you can buy at the drugstore. If you buy the gel, make sure it’s 100% pure aloe vera.
11. Beware of blisters
A sign of severe damage, blisters must be treated with care. If blisters develop, you have a pretty bad burn. If they bother you and they cover only a small area, you may carefully drain them, says Dr. Basler. But do not peel the top skin off; you’ll have less discomfort and danger of infection if air does not come in contact with sensitive nerve endings. To drain the fluid, first sterilize a needle by holding it over a flame. Then puncture the edge of the blister and press gently on the top to let the fluid come out. Do this three times in the first 24 hours, says Dr. Basler. Then leave the blisters alone.
12. If your legs are burned and your feet are swollen, elevate your legs above heart level to help stop the swelling.
13. Be smart about the Sun.
Don’t make the same mistake twice. After you’ve gotten burned, it takes 3 to 6 months for your skin to return to normal, says Dr. Schreiber. “When you get a sunburn and the top layer of skin peels off, the newly exposed skin is more sensitive than ever. That means you’ll burn even faster than you did before if you’re not careful.” Be sensitive about your sun exposure and protect yourself with sunscreen, hats, and clothing.
Remember: You can still get UV rays through windows, so apply sun block even when you’re not planning activities outside.
14. See the Doctor.
Some burns are simply too severe to be treated by yourself.
A severe burn can take a lot out of you, says Dr. Basler. Consult a doctor if you experience nausea, chills, fever, faintness, extensive blistering, general weakness, patches of purple discoloration, or intense itching. Be aware that if the burn seems to be spreading, you could have an infection compounding the problem.
15. KNOW THESE RULES.
Sun sense tips from Dr. Norman Levine, M.D. (along with many other Doctors and Dermatologists).
I picked these rules spoken and written from a Doctor because whenever I try to educate Clients about the same things, they don’t seem to really believe me 100%….
16. Sunblock Recommendation.
The most natural & effective ones I have found to this date which are also the safest for children and sensitive skins are Cyberderm Simply Zinc $38, Cyberderm Sun Whip $38 & Jane Iredale Mineral Powder Me SPF $55.
All are available at our Beauty Studio for purchase. Yes we ship Internationally as well.

Here’s DIY Home remedy that words wonders! It often works even better than store bought products!
First of all, please remember to drink TONS of water daily! Keeping your body hydrated is super important during these super cold & dry months. We must nourish from within as well in order for Topical Treatments to work well.
Secondly, PLEASE use a humidifier! They are amazing!!! They are great for your sinus’ and the rest of your skin on your body too!
Ok, here’s what to do to heal SUPER DRY CRACKED Hands. (You can do this for your feet too!)
All the ingredients you will need should already be located in your household…so no need to spend any $$$.
1. Pick an edible food grade high quality Oil of your choice. i.e. Avocado, Grapeseed, Sunflower, Coconut, Olive, Sweet Orange.
2. Find your Favourite heavy duty Body Moisturizing Cream. Doesn’t matter what brand as long as you like it.
3. Oatmeal or Fine Sugar.
Do this daily before going to Bed:
1. Apply just less than about the size of a Pea of your Oil of Choice, massage into your hands making sure your fingertips + cuticles are well covered in oil as well.
2. Apply a dime size of your Favourite Heavy Duty Cream all over your hands sealing in the Oil.
3. Put on your cotton gloves (use cotton socks if no gloves). Go to bed and sleep with all this on.
After even the 1st night, your hands should feel much better by the morning time. So doing this daily will help heal your hands and prevent it from cracking and getting super dry in the future too. Moisturize = Youth.
Do this 2x per week before the above Routine:
1. Take a quarter size of your Oil of choice,
2. Add in 1 dime size of either oatmeal or sugar and massage gently all over hands, knuckles & cuticles.
(Use Oatmeal if your hands are so dry they are sore. As it is the most gently exfoliant. Use sugar if your hands are super dry and skin is super tough.)
*if you have broken skin, please DO NOT exfoliate those areas otherwise you will irritate it too much.
Keep doing this, and you’ll have the youngest looking & most beautifully moisturized hands ever!
Bonus Tip: Above steps will help keep your manicure last longer and look fresher too!

Everything you need to know:
– Allocate 20-30 mins for your 1st appointment. Thereafter appointments take approx 5-8 mins.
– We will always arrange you in positions that will cause the least amount of pain to you and allow the procedure to be effective, gentle, fast, quick, simple, & easy for you.
– MAKE SURE you have showered and exfoliated before your appointment.
– DO NOT arrive at your appointment with leftover period blood, feces, residue, toilet paper crumbles OR any other gross stuff. THAT IS JUST GROSS & EMBARRASSING for you.
– Waxing CANNOT be done on unclean skin.
– We NEVER double dip & we always give each Client their own can of wax. So there is NO-CROSS CONTAMINATION. That is the way it is supposed to be…..however, we’ve heard from some Clients many salons still for some reason still double-dip….
– Exfoliating 3 days in a row using a GENTLE scrub or GENTLE Exfoliating Mitt will help slough off the dead skin cells so that the wax can grip on to your hairs for proper removal. No dead skin cells also means a much smoother, longer lasting, cleaner wax and LESS PAINFUL too!
– If you DO NOT exfoliate before your appointment, it will be more painful and there will be a higher percentage of your hairs breaking instead of being pulled out from the root which would NOT result in a longer lasting result.
– If it is your 1st time and you are nervous, you can take 2 advils/tylenols 30 mins before your appointment.
– If it is your 1st time and you are EXTREMELY nervous and know you have super coarse hair and have super sensitive skin, please go get the EMLA CREAM from your Pharmacist, apply on your area to be waxed, wrap yourself in saran /cling wrap under your underwear for 1 hour and then you won’t feel any pain at all at your wax appointment.
– If you are on your period, some Esthetician’s will still wax you if you wear a tampon and tuck in the string. Just double check with them.
– After a waxing session, there should be no pain. It should be just during the session. Degree of pain depends on the individual Client.
It will be more painful for you if:
– You DID NOT exfoliate 3 days in a row before your appointment
– You shaved alot in your lifetime therefore making your hairs really coarse, thick and dense
– Are one week prior to your period, that 1-7 days right before your period is when you are super sensitive and your waxing session can hurt 3x more than usual. So if you don’t want to feel that pain, don’t come that week. Once your period arrives, it’s all back to normal

I think we have all started our Holiday Shopping. If not started, definitely thought about it.
Here’s a great Homemade Gift made with lots of love, simple & fun to make & cost effective.
Who doesn’t like a nice, warm, relaxing & soothing bath this time of year? So chilly outside…eeek!
Bring your Family & Friends lots of warmth & love with making them a jar of natural & good quality Bath Salts…best of all, made by YOU!
Good quality Bath Salts are great for achy, tired, sore muscles, softening your skin, calms & clears up your sinus congestion, reduces inflammation, helps your body lotion work better, and overall reduces stress & fatigue.
– Your jars of choice with a good seal. Lots of really nice ones out there even at the dollar stores now. Mason jars work well too
– Ribbons of your choice. Tie a pretty bow around your jar to finish it off with a decorative touch.
– Gift Tag. Make your own fabulous shapes with construction paper.
– Coarse Sea Salt
– Epsom Salts
– Baking Soda
– Food Colouring
– Essential oils of your choice
– Funnel (if you’re using bottles that have a small neck)
Depending on the size of your jar, here are the measurements. Please adjust accordingly OR just make a big batch and fill up all your jars.
If making multi-colours like the picture below, use a separate bowl for each mixture so your colours don’t get mixed up.
In a bowl, mix the following:
250ml/1cup Coarse Sea Salts
125ml/1/2 cup Epsom Salts
40ml Baking Soda
10 drops of your Essential Oil of choice
Add as much food colouring as you need to reach your desired shade.
Once done mixing in your bowls, fill up your jars and tighten the lid to prevent moisture from getting in.
Tie your bows & you’re all done!
TADA! It looks so pretty & store bought huh?
This has always been one of my favourite activities to make.
Guys love this as a gift too! Its not just for Girls. Guys get sore muscles all the time too! Just make the colours more masculine.
Hope you have as much fun as me making your Gifts.

#mensskincare #cleanse #exfoliate #mask #toner #moisturize #beautyblog
I find that this is one of the questions we get asked most often.
This order of steps is very important to follow to ensure you maximize the benefits of your skincare products and for proper absorption into your skin. Do not skip any steps. These 5 steps really just take 2 mins to do AM & PM so it really doesn’t take up that much of time.
Do them on your neck area too and not just your face. Otherwise once middle-aged, you do not want your skin on your face looking so great, but then have a wrinkly/saggy neck.
AM Routine:
Step #1: Cleanse Face with your Prescribed Cleanser.
Massage the size of a drop smaller than a pea-size using upward & outward circular movements with a little bit of added water. Rinse well with facial sponges.
Using facial sponges will help your products work 10x better.
* If you have dry skin, you can just splash your face with water & not use the Cleanser.
#2: Tone.
Apply your Prescribed Toner with a cotton pad using upward and outward movements.
Using an alcohol-free Toner is best. Alcohol can over dry skin causing unnecessary aggravation. If you do have oily skin, there are other alcohol-free alternatives better suited for you as well.
A proper Toner will help tighten your pores that cleansing have opened to release the dirt & grime. It also prepares your pores for better Serum absorption.
#3: Apply Serum.
Apply your Prescribed Serum using your fingertips in upward and outward movements.
This is your topical vitamin boost, just like you would take a multi-vitamin daily to ensure your overall health is good. This will do the same for your skin & target any particular concerns you may have.
#4: Apply Eye Cream.
Apply a very small amount of your Prescribed Eye Cream around your orbital bone using your ring finger (4th) using tapping motions from outwards to inwards.
Do not apply directly on your upper eyelid or lower lash line. Applying too closely will make the product seep into your eyes and cause you irritation which you will need to rinse out.
When you blink, the product will naturally travel to all areas of the skin around the eyes.
Ringer finger is recommended because it is the weakest of all your fingers. The eye area is the most delicate on your face, so using the weakest finger will prevent any accidental excessive pulling which we want to avoid.
#5: Apply Moisturizer.
Apply a pea-size amount of your Prescribed Moisturzer using upward and outward motions.
Moisturizer will seal in your Serum and work synergistically with all the other products you have applied. It will keep your skin strong and fight off environmental aggresions.
Using a Moisturizer with sunscreen protection is recommended for the AM. Or you can always mix your SPF with your Moisturizer together as well.
Using a minimum of SPF 25 is recommended throughout the year.
PM Routine:
Step #1: Cleanse Face with your Prescribed Cleanser.
Massage the size of a drop smaller than a pea-size using upward & outward circular movements with a little bit of added water. Rinse well with facial sponges.
Using facial sponges will help your products work 10x better.
Apply your Prescribed PM Serum using your fingertips in upward and outward movements.
This is your topical vitamin boost, just like you would take a multi-vitamin daily to ensure your overall health is good. This will do the same for your skin & target any particular concerns you may have.
In a more advanced Skincare Routine, a different Serum could be used at night for even more benefits.
Nighttime is the time when you sleep and your skin is at rest and ease and can absorb the best ingredients then.

Nighttime is the time when you sleep and your skin is at rest and ease and can absorb the best ingredients then.
Weekly Skin Treats:
Step #1 A. Exfoliate 1-2 x per week. (done after cleansing Step #1):
Apply a pea-sized amount of your Prescribed Exfoliator mixed with a little bit of water and massage gently using upward and outward motions.
Leave on for 30-60 seconds for better penetration if desired. Rinse, then continue from Step #1B or Step #2 onwards.
There are many different types of Exfoliators. Make sure you choose one that is right for your skin otherwise it will have negative effects.
Step #1B. Mask 2-3x per week. (done after Step #1A Exfoliate or Step #1 Cleansing Step.)
Apply a nickel-sized amount of your Prescribed Mask using upward and outward motions.
Leave on for 10-30 minutes depending on the mask. Rinse, then continue from Step #2 onwards.
For those with Combination skins, you may need 2 masks on your face.
A neck/decollete Mask is also recommended for anti-aging results.
Final notes:
– When all the products are used properly, they should last approximately 3-12 months depending on the product. Toner will run out first being so liquid.
– Whenever seasons change for us in Canada due to our 4 beautiful seasons, 1-3 products may also need to be changed accordingly as your skin will have different needs pending the environment and your hormonal changes too. If you don’t finish your products, save them for the next time that season comes around or if you go on vacation someplace with similar weather conditions.
Come in for a Skin Analysis or Facial and we can absolutely help you find the perfect products.
– Facials are recommended to be done monthly to coincide with your natural skin renewal cycle. However, if there is not enough time, having a Facial done every season change will help your skin revive & adjust tremendously as well.

Facials:
can be done monthly for a full year up until your Wedding Month. The last facial closest to your Wedding Day should be done 1 week prior to your big day.
Facials are important to be done monthly regardless if it is in preparation for a Big Event or not to ensure your skin is healthy and glowing everyday. However, if you do have a big important event to prep for, not only will facials make your skin gorgeous & prep your skin for a flawless Makeup Application, it will also help you relax and de-stress.
Makeup Applications:
for yourself + your Bridal Party should be booked approximately one year in advance to be safe. The best Makeup Artists will NOT be the ones available last minute….and sometimes the last minute available Artists may turn out OK if you are lucky, but why settled for OK when you can have the Best?
When booking a Makeup Artist, you want to make sure they have a good reputation online and by Referrals.
The Best Makeup Artists are the ones that LOVE their jobs & LOVE their Clients and will go above and beyond to ensure everything from booking to trial to Wedding Day will go perfectly well so you can be relaxed and trust you are in good hands. They will not cause you any extra stress.
You want to make sure they are using the BEST quality makeup possible because someone in your bridal party is guaranteed to have sensitive skin. You don’t want to cause yourself or anyone a huge allergic reaction that will happen during that day.
Not all Makeup products are created equal and not all the major brands are guaranteed to be good. There is lots of sufficient accessible information for you to research out which brands are the best. All ingredients are required to be listed on all products.
For Makeup Services, this rule is generally true:
The higher the cost of that Makeup Artist, the better the quality of materials + service + outcome + professionalism you will receive.
It is a competitive market out there these days.
However, if you booked someone at a cheap price, they will most likely have less experience and things can go wrong, whether intentional or not (these are some of the many stories I have heard over the past 14 years) ie.
– they may run late on the the Wedding Day because they woke up late by accident
– they may forget the day you booked your Trial because they just forgot and not show up
– they will very likely use lower quality materials which may result in a not the best outcome + allergic reactions.
– they may be disorganized and may take you excessive amounts of time to coordinate scheduling with them
– on your Wedding Day, they may forget to bring an essential piece of material or equipment with them
– they may not be the most hygienic and that can lead to skin infections on you or your Guests which can result in alot or a little of further Medical attention and/or Plastic Surgery services
– they may be a company who just hires Newbies & sends them out and you end up with someone who’s doing a Wedding Makeup Application for the first time since their school graduation, or they may even just still be in Makeup School and have not completed the course yet.
….there are still many more unpleasant stories, but the above are the most common ones.
DO NOT go with the cheapest price.
It will most likely ruin your day + cost you more money & frustration to fix.
Your Makeup Trial should be done 1-2 months before your Wedding Day.
Hair Styling:
All the above rules with Makeup Artists are the same goes for Hair Stylists.
If you need a haircut and/or hair colour done, have it done at least 2 weeks before your Wedding Day.
Lash Extensions:
If you have not tried Lash Extensions before, you should definitely have them done at least 1 month before your Wedding Day. This way, if you don’t like them, or are allergic or decide you want a different style you have enough time before the big day to get all that done.
Then have a fresh new set done 2 days before the Wedding Day.
Spray Tanning:
If you have not tried Spray Tanning before, you should definitely have it done at least 1 month before your Wedding Day. This way, if you don’t like it, or are allergic or decide you want a different level of intensity done you have enough time before the big day to decide all that.
Then have a fresh Spray Tan done 3 days before your Wedding Day.
Gym + Diet:
Working out 3x a week is always great. It will help you be toned and keep you healthy and in shape.
If you need more help, find a good Personal Trainer. This should be done 1 year before your Wedding day & kept up up until your big day & of course for beyond that too.
It is super important to have a good balanced diet of Protein, Veggies, Fruit, & Carbs. You want all your organs to be healthy & functioning well everyday and not just towards your Wedding Day.
If you need more help, find a good Nutritionist. They can help you meal plan.
Don’t forget to drink LOTS of water! At least 8 glasses a day. If you are drinking coffee and/or working out, you need to increase it even more.
Developing the above lifestyle changes can be a challenge. Have your Partner on board with you so you can both do it together. That will be more fun!
Final Tips:
Have fun planning your Wedding & final details. Try not to get stressed or let anyone stress you out. It is supposed to be a FUN process!
DO NOT schedule anything on the “To do list” on the day before your Wedding.
Lots of last minute things can come up, so you will need that time to finalize those things.
If there are no last minute things, then you are in luck! Just enjoy some quiet, peaceful rest & relaxation time before a very busy, hectic, long & fun-filled Wedding Day!
Sleep early the night before your Wedding. You will be glad you did.
